by Matilda on 09.19.08 at 12:23 PM See more in Life •I am bringing no animal products into the house, so when we needed milk, I bought soy and rice milk. When Avery asked for a glass of milk, I poured her some soy milk. She took a sip, set it down and said; “This doesn’t taste like milk, Grandma”. OK. I poured her some rice milk, to which I received the same response.

by Matilda on 09.18.08 at 07:33 PM See more in Life •Bayside Out&Back at what felt like a good pace. My GPS data has disappeared! I’m using the new Garmin Forerunner 405. This isn’t the first time this has happened and I’m not sure if it’s a hardware or software failure. There is a house at the end of this route that I am seriously considering. More seriously than I’ve considered anything thus far. Though upon my return home, standing on my lakeside lawn with “hallelujah” by Rufus Wainwright playing on my iPOD . . . I have to wonder if there really is a better place to live. But this house is so livable for me and so close to where I am now that, with little effort, I can still enjoy the lake and trails with much lower overhead. I dug out the Owner’s Manual, reset the Forerunner 405 and found my data! Or not.

by Matilda on 09.16.08 at 12:25 PM See more in Life •24 hours on the trickle charger and my ToyCar started just fine this morning. The ToyCar gets serviced and detailed before winter storage and I’m not ready to do that just yet, and I’m not inclined to have it serviced at this time, so I’ll put the trickle charger on when I park it for the weekend and cross my fingers that does the trick for now. The Wagon is due to be serviced next week. I have no patience for car related “stuff”. I don’t know if having two makes it better or worse. At least I always have one that works. If I only had one car, I doubt I would keep it as long as I’ve kept these two. And, if there were something I’ld rather drive, I probably would. I’m not sure why, but these two cars are very near and dear to my heart.

by Matilda on 09.15.08 at 08:27 AM See more in Life •Bayside Out&Back: 60 minutes, 4.24 miles, 4.24 mph, HR=148. Hard as it is to get out there, it sure is a great way to start the week! My ToyCar wouldn’t start this morning. I have been having issues with the remote locking system. I connected the trickle charger I use over winter and drove the other car to work.

by Matilda on 09.11.08 at 12:25 PM See more in Life •Several books I’ve read lately have me curious about living as a Vegan. There’s no way I could do it without Steve’s support, as he does as much, if not more, of our cooking as I do. He’s agreed to give it a try. I was thinking we would commit to a Vegan diet for the month of October. This would give us a chance to use up what’s left in the freezer/pantry. How serendipitous that the first week of October is Compassionate Action for Animals fifth annual week-long celebration of all that’s veg: Veg Week 2008! Rent-A-Geek’s presence has ruined my hope of an early departure from the office today. I think perhaps it’s time to embrace fall and start wearing long pants, shoes, socks and maybe even sweaters.

by Matilda on 09.09.08 at 01:10 PM See more in Life •W2 and 1099 forms have landed in my office. My left eye has been bothering me this morning. It feels like I have something in it. It wasn’t getting red or anything, so I didn’t worry about it, but at lunch time I decided it would be prudent to take the contact lense out. Oddly enough, taking the lense out has made it feel worse and water a lot. Good thing I didn’t take out both lenses, as I don’t seem to have a pair of glasses in my office or in my car. My Eye Doctor has an office across the street, but they don’t staff it on Tuesday. My friend, G’s Eye Doctor who’s office is also not far from my office was willing/able to see me immediately. A white piece of something was removed from my eye. Ick. I have to dose the eye with antibiotic drops and go back tomorrow to make sure it’s not infected and is healing well. In the future, I’ll be using this Eye Doctor instead. She had trouble getting whatever it is out and ended up using a second, stronger anesthetic and she promised it would hurt pretty bad when that wore off. It’s been three hours and so far, so good. My eye just feels like it’s being scratched or something that I wouldn’t really call pain.

There was a house I wanted to check out and as long as we were in the neighborhood, we stopped at Steve’s daughter’s house. Tour de Hopkins: 172 minutes, 27.92 miles, 9.7 mph, HR=138.

by Matilda on 09.01.08 at 08:07 PM See more in Life •I spent the morning doing laundry, decluttering and knitting. Lethargy Cured: 115 minutes, 21.46 miles, 11.00 mph, HR=113, Cadence=? We stopped at Teri & Tony’s house to find Teri recuperating nicely from Thursday’s knee surgery. They were just having cocktails, so we joined them for a bit. I love having friends we can drop in on when we’re out biking! While I did brush my teeth at the last minute before we left, I hadn’t showered today and was pretty grimy.

by Matilda on 08.30.08 at 01:57 PM See more in Life •I’ve spent the morning working on decluttering the office. I didn’t get as many books off the shelf as I had hoped. I did, however, manage to rid the room of enough junk to fill an entire large black trash bag. The three smaller external hard drives have finally all been cleared to the large network drive. Stubbs/Maxwell Loop: 104 minutes, 5.82 miles, 3.3 mph, HR=111.

by Matilda on 08.29.08 at 11:50 PM See more in Life •Avery and I made it out for two bike rides! The first was to “Woodchuck” Park. I wish I knew why she refers to this park by that name, it’s actually Bederwood Park. After her nap, we hopped on the bike and took dinner to a family from our church who’s Mom is recovering from cancer surgery. On the way home we stopped at the “Car” park. I still can’t get her out on the lake, but I’ll keep trying.

by Matilda on 08.27.08 at 05:15 PM See more in Life •At lunch time today, I was somewhat concerned to discover I wasn’t wearing my watch. I didn’t lose it, just forgot to put it on this morning. Fox/Willow/Watertown Loop: 62 minutes, 4.13 miles, 3.9 mph, HR=147. My music was 5 bmp faster and my heart rate was up 13 bmp, yet my overall speed was the same. Confirmation that today’s workout was indeed harder. Just wish I knew why.
