“The Accidental” by Ali Smith
by Matilda on 02.14.07 at 07:41 PM See more in Reading •Barefoot, thirtysomething Amber shows up at the door of a Norfolk cottage that the Smarts are renting for the summer. Amber doesn’t know them, but she talks her way in, telling lies, and stays for dinner. Eve, an author, thinks Amber is a student her husband is sleeping with. Michael, an English professor, knows only that her car broke down. Daughter Astrid, age 12, thinks she’s her mother’s friend. Son Magnus, 17, thinks she’s an angel. Gradually, Amber insinuates herself into the family. Dazzled by her seeming exoticism, the Smarts begin to examine the accidents of their lives under the searing lens of Amber’s perceptions. When Eve finally banishes her from the cottage, Amber disappears from their sight, but not, as they find when they return home to London, from their profoundly altered lives.

Three Hundred Twenty Days Until Christmas!
by Matilda on 02.14.07 at 12:58 PM See more in Life •I started my Christmas 2007 shopping today with a bargain I just couldn’t pass up. The trick will be to remember where I’ve stashed it.
Twenty Nine
by Matilda on 02.13.07 at 11:59 PM See more in Love •Caribou Coffee #29. I’ve been real tempted to buy their stock. It’s not doing so well right now, but Starbuck’s and Peet’s were very good to me, so why not Caribou?
Suntan Soon!
by Matilda on 02.12.07 at 12:17 PM See more in Life •I never took a vacation this winter. You can tell by the paleness of my skin. The pale is really getting on my nerves. My Doctors at Mayo have me terrified of a tanning bed. Today I ordered a propane heater for my deck. That should make suntan season come sooner to my house. I can’t wait!
Weekend WrapUp
by Matilda on 02.11.07 at 07:32 PM See more in Life •Saturday: Mr.B was busy with the screwdriver; the dining room chairs, crib, shower. We made two huge pots of beef stroganoff. Sunday: Church. Walk. Hot coco while roasting chocolate marshmallows. Chess; I lost both games.
Two In One
by Matilda on 02.11.07 at 07:26 PM See more in Exercise •80 minutes, 4.25 miles and Grey’s Anatomy “Much Too Much” and “Owner of a Lonely Heart” on the treadmill. To SuperAmerica and back was another 128 minutes and 5.03 miles. Enough to compensate for my lazy yesterday.

Hair Today. Gone Tomorrow?
by Matilda on 02.06.07 at 01:00 PM See more in Life •I just confirmed my Thursday hair cut appointment. It’s been seven weeks since my hair has been trimmed! I usually get it trimmed every three weeks. Yesterday and today I can say; “I don’t need a hair cut” with confidence. Sure as I cancel that appointment I’ll wake up with bed head that will embarrass me at the gym. And then again, perhaps not. What’s a girl to do?
Baby; It’s COLD Outside!!

R.I.P.
by Matilda on 02.05.07 at 09:07 AM See more in Life •My copy machine died this morning. Considering I’ve had it since the Golden Valley house, it’s served me long and well. I’m not going to replace it just yet as I’m wondering if my scanner won’t suffice.
