As of this morning, my 2003 BMW 540i Wagon has 100,000 miles on it.  This is a first for me and I must admit it does cause me some anxiety.  I hate car drama with a passion.  I’m abnormally attached to this car and have been conscientious in regards to its care and maintenance.

Goals for 2009:  Lose eight ten pounds.  Take a photo every day, preferably with my Nikon D2X.  Get through “The Daily Message” by Eugene H. Peterson.  All manageable.  I registered at the Social Security Online/Business Services Online site.  My intent was to submit my W2’s.  To my surprise, that site actually prints them as well.  No need to order special forms next year.  W2’s get submitted in batches of 20.  Of course, I didn’t realize the first batch included a duplicate until I had submitted all three batches and verified (or not) the total.  Damn!  I got outside to find my car covered in ice.  I scraped enough to get me across the street where I enjoyed a hamburger while I waited for the car to warm up enough that I could slide the rest of the ice off and allow me the visibility to get home.

I picked Avery up a bit late today, giving her a chance to sleep in.  I stopped at the Target in Oakdale to perform another Akoha.com mission.  I chose a woman with two small girls in the clothing department and gave her a Target gift card along with the Akoha mission card and my personal card.  Within an hour she had logged on to Akoha!  My brother Jeff spent the day with Avery and me, unfortunately, the cold kept us housebound.

Today’s project is to get my sewing/knitting room morphed into a guest room.  That mostly accomplished, we went to Schmitt Music’s Warehouse Sale.  They’ve got some used Steinways I wanted to see.  Olive Garden for dinner courtesy of a gift card from Al at work.  A failed attempt to find a replacement dog door at PetsMart.  A trip to Target for a shower curtain for the north guest bath.  Home Depot for a new light fixture for the Bunk/Crib room.

I was sitting in my car at the Ridgedale Byerly’s, double checking my list, when a man tapped on my window.  I cracked the window open just so I could hear him ask for money.  He said his car ran out of gas and he was trying to raise some money to buy gas.  I shook my head and closed the window.  I’m grateful my car is helpful in maintaining my policy of keeping all the doors locked all the time.  Part of me felt bad to have turned him down.  I could have given him money, but chose not to.  I had a bad feeling about the situation and I honored that.  The drizzle kept Avery and I housebound, with the exception of filling the bird feeders.

I feel sick.  Considering what I’ve eaten in the last three days, it’s no wonder.

My Birthday Party!  Steve made a chicken/beef stir fry.  I hope someone got a picture of this year’s Gingerbread House!

I don’t know why this machine (Fuhitsu P1620) no longer recognizes my thumbprint and requires a scan of my index finger.  One minute it’s 9:14 and the next thing I know, it’s 10:40.  Time flies!  A winter storm had me housebound all day and it looks like more of the same tomorrow.  I’m mostly caught up on laundry and both guest rooms are ready!

Here’s A Thought

“One of the hardest lessons we have to learn in this life, and one that many persons never learn, is to see the divine, the celestial, the pure in the common, the near at hand--to see that heaven lies about us here in this world.” John Burroughs (1837-1921) Naturalist

Last night while I was bemoaning the fact that, for the first time in the almost four years Avery has been on this planet, I was going to go two whole weeks without seeing her, I heard Windows Messenger’s audible notification of a message.  Despite the fact only a few important people use that method to communicate with me, I was too lazy to go back downstairs to check it.  Turns out it was Amy letting me know Avery was available today after all!  Their trip to Wisconsin was cancelled due to weather.  Still having a little bit of shopping to do, we stopped at Gear West in Long Lake.  Proclaiming a desire to ski, Avery went straight up stairs to look for a pair of skis.  Much to her delight, and my astonishment, she found a pair of used cross country skis that are just her size.  She hoisted them to her shouloder and went downstairs to attend to our errand.  Several merchandise displays got in the way of those skis.  Good thing she is a valued Customer of the Proprietress. So, today we skied around the yard a bit.  We made a HUGE mess in the kitchen while baking frosted sugar cookies.  A second squirrel has been relocated.
